OnePlus 12 HONEST Review: Two Months Later!

Introduction:

I’ve had the OnePlus 12 for about two months now and up until this point my Android phone of choice has personally been the s24 ultra it’s just a damn near perfect phone but it can be a little pricey for some of us out there in comes the OnePlus 12 which starts at $8.99 still expensive.

But not nearly as high as the $1,200 or so dollars that you’d have to start spending on an s24 ultra and it has pretty much all of the features and the build to compete with that phone.

OnePlus 12 Display:

Now for start the display is absolutely fantastic this year it has what OnePlus calls a new Pro xdr display with ltpo and there’s hyper rendering and hypertouch and it’s a 2K display with 120 HZ basically but it does look a lot better and is so much brighter than any other OnePlus device that I’ve used in the past really it’s brighter than most phones out there. I mean it has a peak brightness of 4500 nits which is absolutely wild. Now one of my favorite things about the s24 ultra is just how good that phone’s display is and it also has a flat like phone and display and I really like that and unfortunately you don’t really get a flat experience here.

On the OnePlus it has a little bit of a curve to the screen but I won’t let that be a huge issue a lot of phones do this I personally don’t enjoy curved phones but I do love the look of it it’s kind of like a LoveHate Thing.

So if you aren’t bothered by it so much then you’ll just be fine with that but 120 HZ feels buttery smooth watching content or gaming on a display this good is just chef’s kiss it’s a perfect display honestly it is really good now.

By the way gaming is where that hyper rendering and Hyper touch comes into play here and apparently it just helps with the graphic processing and for touch and it’ll just improve accuracy and allow for fewer M touches which is really important. Specially if you’re like an intense mobile gamer out there you’re going to want that performance is my least favorite thing to talk about not with this phone just in phone with phones. In general it’s 2024 everything has the latest and greatest for the most part this has a Snapdragon 8 gen three chip and it has 16 gigs of RAM and 512 gigs of storage it’s a fast phone most phones are these days I notice absolutely no issues. Also when doing all of the basic phone tasks it really depends on Cooling and heat dispersion which OnePlus is actually leading the pack here when it comes to cooling if your phone gets too hot no matter what you’re doing. But if you know especially while gaming that’s when your performance can really start to get bad you’ll start to get lag you’ll start to get like Drop frames it’ll start to freeze and I’m happy to report that this phone stays pretty cool while doing all of those graphic intensive tasks and anything where the battery starts to get hot it actually does a really good job of maintaining that heat and cooling it.

OnePlus 12 Battery :

I really haven’t had much issues in that department there’s a massive 5400 mAh battery that can charge fully in 30 minutes thanks to the 80 w super vuk charging technology that OnePlus has implemented here so there’s really no need to worry about battery with a combo like that.

But I’m also happy to report that I’ve been getting through a full day of heavy use and still having like 30 to 40% which is pretty much right in line with every major flagship phone of this size that I’ve been getting with battery.

OnePlus 12 Camera:

Now the camera is where I have a little bit of a LoveHate relationship I guess hate is a strong word I’m just sometimes disappointed because the specs tell me that this camera should be really good all of the time and I do get a lot of really good pictures.

And then there are other times where I’m like what happened why did that give me what it gave me but that’s you know it’s not all the time it’s few and far between. But when it happens it’s really kind of a disappointment not to mention the telephoto lens for portraits it’s still stuck at 3x even though there is a 6X telephoto camera I’m not entirely sure why I’m limited here and that’s a big downside for me because I often love using my telephoto lens for portraits and I want that full 70 mm range when I’m taking portraits and I get that on the iPhone 15 Pro Max and on other phones that have telephoto and you know have a good portrait mode. Now for the sake of this review I didn’t really mess with any setting except for videos I changed the resolution to be 4K and the frames to be 30 frames per second I feel like most people will do that but otherwise leave the photo settings untouched at least that’s what I do I honestly don’t change anything I just want to point and shoot and there’s some crazy HDR happening in just about every photo that you take and while it does look amazing on the phone not entirely sure that it’ll translate when I’m transferring it to my computer and looking at them during the editing of this video.

So let me know in the comments down below what you think of these photos I I still think it takes really good pictures uh I’m just not quite sure that it’s at the top of the pecking order for me.

Now the camera is again in partnership with Hasselblad and it’s nice to have that style being portrayed on some of these portraits.

But I ultimately just end up taking pictures without any extra enhancements like I mentioned before and so for those of you who like that you can always enable it if you want more control over your photos you can turn on the master mode and that will give you fine tuning over each detail and controls ISO aperture speed all of that you can just change whatever you want. But for me smartphone photography should just be simple it replaces a point and shoot in my opinion and that’s all I wanted to do I just want to take my phone out snap a photo.

Conclusion:

On overall I think the OnePlus 12 is certainly a Flagship killer that was the old slogan that OnePlus used constantly when they were putting out $400 phones against tho phones and kind of stacking up really well and now OnePlus makes a lot of flagships at Flagship level prices but still not nearly as high as some of those other flagships so fortunately it’s cheaper than some of those you know Ultra high-end phones like the iPhone 15 Pro Max and like the Samsung gy Galaxy s24 Ultra. Because of that it’s a really good device it should definitely be considered as your next phone for 2024 especially if you like saving money and still getting an incredible high-end Flagship experience.

Well that’s for the day.. see you on the next blog..
